Brighton 1 Ann Arbor Pioneer 1

Great clash between two perennial Division 1 powers. Corey Elenio opened the scoring for the Pioneers with a restarted indirect kick while the referee was instructed the wall he set up 15 yards off the ball to maintain their distance. Great game, great players and great coaching all negated by very poor reffing. The kids and the game deserve better.

Quite a bit of attack and counter attack for the rest of the half left the score at 1-0 Pioneer.

This is the first time the Bulldogs fell behind all year and this would test their fortitude. The second half started with a flurry from the Bulldogs as the never let up the entire half. The Bulldogs Ryan Martin put in the goal off of a redirect header from Brad Murphy with about 20 minutes remaining.

Bulldog keeper Aaron Kammann came out to field a crossing pass and slipped, allowing the ball to carrom to Jeff Gross of Ann Arbor who passed up a wide open net to bring the ball back across mouth of the goal. Eric Dempsey had dropped back to help on defense. Jeff faked another shot to draw Aaron out of position all the while the Brighton defense was tracking back into position. Gross finally took what should be the game winning shot only to have Kammann stuff the shot at the goal line. Great preserverance by Aaron on the Pioneer player hotdoging it.

Possession was 70 / 30 in favor of Brighton and the shots on goal were more lopsided at 20 - 3 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Next Game at South Lyon Tuesday 9/23/03. Brad Murphy's 17th birthday is that day. Can the Bulldogs expect a big gift from Brad ????

GO DOGS!!!!
